- Best German MXGP rider in Teutschenthal
- Two point-scoring finishes
- Unmatched atmosphere
This past weekend (May 31/June 1), the German Grand Prix of the Motocross World Championship took place in Teutschenthal. At his home race, Max ended up as best German rider in the MXGP class and scored points in both races. Technical issues prevented him from achieving a possible top-ten finish.
At his first hard-pack MXGP event since spring 2024, Max needed some time on Saturday to find his rhythm and the right bike setup on the demanding track with its deep ruts. As a result, arm pump in the second half of the qualifying race held him back from a better finish than 25th place.
Together with his suspension tuner ORS Suspension, Max found a better setup for Sunday and felt much more comfortable. He held 16th place for a long time during the first race before factory rider Glen Coldenhoff passed him three corners before the finish line.
“Riding went a lot better with the revised setup than on Saturday. We’ve now found a good setting for hard-pack tracks in MXGP conditions. The race was satisfying overall — I even managed to stay ahead of some factory riders,” Max said about the race.
During the break before the second race, heavy rain drastically changed the track conditions, turning the Teutschenthal valley into a mud pit. Max got off the starting grid well and initially slotted into 12th place. By mid-race, he was running 11th and had the top ten within reach when technical problems struck, causing him to briefly go down. He resumed in 16th and managed to climb back to 15th by the finish. This made him the 17th overall in Teutschenthal and the best German in his class.
“After a good start I was going well until I had issues with the bike. I tried to keep my pace but that led to a crash. Still, it was a great weekend — the atmosphere with so many fans was just incredible. A home race always comes with extra pressure, and I hadn’t raced an MXGP on hard-pack in quite a while. That’s why I’m satisfied with how the weekend went and the progress we made, especially with the suspension setup. Now I’m looking forward to the next Grand Prix this coming weekend in Latvia,” Max beamed.
