Rounds 1 and 2 of the Australian Supercross Championship were raced with heavy hearts following the passing of Jackie Wilson, the mother of current SX1 Championship leader and 2023 Champion, Dean Wilson.
Dean learned of his mother’s passing on the morning of Round 2, following a challenging opening night where he was already racing with the weight of knowing she was unwell.
“It was tough, but I had an angel in my corner, and I knew this is where she would want me to be,” said Wilson.
The Honda Racing team has spent the past two weeks preparing for Round 3 of the Boost Mobile Australian Supercross Championship, focused forward with resilience and respect for the sport’s unpredictability.
“Anything can happen,” said Team Director Yarrive Konsky. “There are 150 points still available in both SX1 and SX2, and 75 points in SX3. Even though we’ve had solid results and currently lead SX1 and SX3, there are still too many points and too many races left for anyone to be overconfident.”
Adding to the excitement of the weekend, five-time Australian Champion Justin Brayton joined the team on Press Day. Riding for the first time since breaking his wrist, Brayton was thrilled to be back in Australia aboard his Quad Lock Honda CRF450RWE, even if just for limited track time.
“I’m happy to be back in Australia and back on the bike,” said Brayton. “There’s no racing planned, but I’ll be riding on race day during practice, qualifying, and some special features. I’m excited to be on track again.”
Round 3 also welcomes a new title sponsor, Northstar Pastoral, joining the team as title partner alongside SX1 points leader Dean Wilson. Northstar Pastoral has been producing high-quality cattle for more than 15 years and shares Honda’s values of hard work, consistency, and excellence.
