Round 6 Recap Australian Motocross Championships: Highs, Lows, and a Unified Charge Forward!

Round 6 of the Australian Motocross Championship took place in our nation’s capital, Canberra, delivering a rollercoaster of results for the Factory Honda Team. From dominant wins to unexpected challenges, the weekend served as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of sport. Through it all, the team remains united and focused on the road ahead.

Team Director Yarrive Konsky reflected on the weekend with perspective and gratitude.

“Not every day will be perfect, not in life, and certainly not in sport. Honda won four out of six races across three classes, secured two of the three overalls, and stood on five out of a possible nine podiums. That’s a strong weekend by any measure. While Kyle faced a tough outing, it’s the first real challenge he’s had in nearly two years  and we’re not deterred,” said Konsky.

For Kyle Webster, the weekend marked a rare dip in form, a 4th overall result following his recent back injury. Despite the setback, the reigning champion remains focused and resilient.

“We couldn’t afford a bad weekend, but we had one. I’m still not 100%, I feel stiff, I was making mistakes, and it cost us in the points. But I’m not going to let it drag me down. There are still 100 points up for grabs, and I plan on chasing every one of them,” said Webster, who currently sits second in the championship.

Wilson Todd had a breakthrough weekend, claiming his first MX1 podium of the season. With a 4th in moto one and a 2nd in moto two, he finished 3rd overall,  a step forward in his rebuilding year.

“It’s been a long time coming, and it feels good to finally land on the podium. I’m not where I want to be just yet, but this is progress, and I’m going to enjoy it. Two rounds to go, and I’m aiming for two more podiums,” said Todd.

Brodie Connolly was nearly flawless in MX2, setting the fastest qualifying time and going 1-1 in both motos. With his commanding performance, Connolly extended his championship lead to 38 points.

“I had so much fun this weekend. Everything clicked, the track was great, and I felt strong from start to finish,” Connolly shared.

Teammate Alex Larwood showed grit and speed, rebounding from a crash in moto one to take 4th, then charging from behind to finish 2nd in moto two, securing 2nd overall.

“I was frustrated after race one, especially with how aggressively others were riding, but I’m proud of how I came back. That second moto was the best I’ve felt in a long time. The championship might be out of reach, but round wins and a spot on the final podium are in sight, and that’s what I’m chasing,” said Larwood, now just one point off third in the standings.

Kayd Kingsford continued his MX3 dominance with another pole position, a race one win, and a 2nd in race two, despite a crash caused by a downed lapped rider. He now holds a commanding points lead in the class.

“Crashing is on me, but I was definitely frustrated. Still, it was a strong weekend overall, another win, good starts, and I’m enjoying every round with Honda. We’ve built a solid lead and now it’s about finishing the job,” said Kingsford.

Ride Red’s Jet Alsop delivered his best result of the year, going 3-1 for 2nd overall and claiming his first race win of the season.

“It feels so good to finally repay Honda, my team, and my family. I’m just five points off second in the championship, and that’s my goal now. It’d be great to see Honda go one-two by the end of the year,” said Alsop.

Konsky concluded, “Wins or losses, the Factory Honda Team remains united  and driven by purpose, pride, and the relentless pursuit of excellence”.
