Round 1 of the SuperMotocross World Championship was defined by extreme weather, thunder, lightning, and heavy rain forced the program into a single main event. With riders expecting a second race, strategy played a role in a cautious approach. When the event was abandoned, results were set from race 1.
Joey Savatgy led the way for the Quad Lock Honda squad with a strong 9th place, Shane McElrath crossed the line in 15th, and the returning fan favorite Dean Wilson secured 16th. While the riders left with mixed emotions, the experience provided valuable insights, and the team feels well-prepared heading into Round 2 in St. Louis tomorrow night.
Joey Savatgy
“I want more than 9th, I’m not satisfied with that. We made some good changes to the bike this week, and I’ve lifted my intensity. Last weekend showed us that if you’re not precise in those conditions, it can go wrong quickly. My focus is on being in the fight with the factory riders, and the goal is to finish inside the top 8 by season’s end.”
Shane McElrath
“Last week wasn’t good enough. I rode tight and nervous after a crash earlier in the week, and there was no intensity in my riding. We’ve reset, had a strong week, and now it’s about executing. We’ve set clear goals and I need to deliver.”
Dean Wilson
“It was solid, but I’m never just out there doing laps, I’m racing. Every position counts, and the higher I finish, the better it is for me and the team. I’ve had a few injuries recently and I’m still working back to 100%, but I’m here to fight my way forward every weekend.”
With renewed determination, the Quad Lock Honda Team looks ahead to tomorrow night’s racing in St. Louis, ready to chase stronger results.
