Strong Start for Honda Racing Australia at Round 1 of the Australian Supercross Championship!

The Factory Honda Racing Australia team kicked off the 2025 Australian Supercross Championship with a dominant performance at Round 1 in Redcliffe, Queensland.

In the SX1 class, defending champion Dean Wilson continued his impressive form aboard his Quad Lock Honda, delivering a commanding display reminiscent of his performances over the past two seasons. Wilson won his heat race and went on to dominate both main events.

“It’s special tonight. It’s been a tough year, and I want to dedicate this to my mum, she’s fighting a hard battle, and I wanted her to hear some good news,” said Wilson. “It didn’t come easy, I went off the track in race one but fought back to take the win. The second moto felt great; I felt great on the bike.”

Cedric Soubeyras, making his debut in the Australian Championship with BOOST Honda, impressed with consistency to secure third overall. After winning his heat, Soubeyras went 2–4 in the mains to land on the podium.

“It was good. We came with the goal of being on the podium, and I feel we executed well. I wanted to take no risks tonight, Round 2 is tomorrow,” said Soubeyras.

In the SX2 class, Honda riders showed both speed and depth across the board. Shane McElrath (Quad Lock Honda) qualified first, followed closely by Wilson Todd (Berry Sweet Honda).

In the heats, Thomas Wood (Pro Honda) won Heat 1, while National Finance & Loans Honda rider Alex Larwood finished second. McElrath placed second in Heat 2, while Todd advanced through the Last Chance Qualifier after early misfortune.

In the first of two mains, Todd finished second, Larwood third, Wood sixth, and McElrath 17th after a crash that damaged his bike. In Moto 2, McElrath stormed back to take a convincing win, leading a Honda 1–2–3 with Larwood second and Wood third, while Todd crashed while running in second.

Overall in SX2, Larwood sits second, Wood third, Todd fourth, and McElrath sixth, with Larwood just one point off the championship lead.

In the SX3 class, Quad Lock Honda’s Kayd Kingsford delivered a standout performance, taking a dominant victory ahead of teammate Jet Alsop (Pro Honda), who finished third.

It was about being patient and not doing anything silly,” said Kingsford. “The bike felt amazing, and everything came together. As Yarrive always says, the rider who makes the fewest mistakes will win this championship, so we’ll stay smart and patient.”

Round 2 of the Australian Supercross Championship continues tomorrow night in Redcliffe.
